I am a graduate student researcher at the SOCAL Research Group under the supervision of Professor Daniel Wong, specializing in Systems Optimization and Computer Architecture. My research primarily focuses on leveraging advanced tracing and monitoring techniques, such as eBPF, to enhance system performance and optimize system management runtimes.

Through my work, I explore how eBPF can be utilized to provide deeper insights into system behavior, enabling runtime observability and facilitating more efficient energy management. I have applied these techniques to trace kernel and application-level metrics for system performance analysis, aiming to drive improvements in dynamic power management and Quality-of-Service (QoS) in heterogeneous environments.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue exploring kernel-level instrumentation and developing QoS-aware power management algorithms with eBPF, aiming to optimize system efficiency and energy usage at scale.

On Feature Selection Algorithms for an Effective Botnet Detection

Authors: Meher Afroz, Muntaka Ibnath, Ashikur Rahman, Jakia Sultana, Raqeebir Rab
The primary focus of the work is to compare 5 different heuristics for feature selection algorithm for an effective botnet detection. We extracted 15 features from ISCX botnet dataset using Wireshark. We also presented a comparative analysis on the algorithms based on their detection rate and false alarm rate. We further calculated the time complexities of all the heuristics. The best one resulted in around 90% detection rate.
